From Under My Rock

Hi friends! First, I apologize for not visiting and leaving blog love the past couple of weeks....

partly it's been crazy work (I've been working double-time the past 3 weeks trying to get a grant proposal written)....

partly it's been travel (I was in Denver last week for work)....

partly it's been enjoying my free time with my family (especially now that we finally have nice weather!).

But, I promise to catch up on my visits....I miss seeing what everyone is doing!

I haven't had a chance to make anything new. Well, I did make one card a couple of weeks ago, but it was ugly. Embarrassingly ugly. So it's not getting posted. I guess I can't card under pressure. :)
But, I am going to post a card I've submitted twice but didn't get picked up. I still love this card. It does have a bit of an identity crisis--I'm not sure when I would use this card. Maybe a fall wedding? Chinese New Year? Happy fall? Good luck with the power blackout? Hmmmm... Anyhoo, here it is:

The lanterns and sentiment are from Lawn Fawn's Lunar Lights. I used alcohol inks to create a gradient and then stamped the lanterns onto the gradients. Actually, I stamped about 15 and mixed them up to see which I liked the best. The linen ribbon is from May Arts.

This card was actually on a red base in its first life. But, I decided that I would push the color scheme and used violet and turquoise. I managed to pull off the front panel without ripping it--thank goodness.

I also wanted to thank Emily Leiphart for passing on her Versatile Blogger award. Thanks, Emily! If you haven't checked out her blog, it's a definite must-see. She's such a FAB card maker!

Thanks for looking...I really appreciate it! Have a great night.

  2. Glad that you posted this, Jocelyn. The lanterns are gorgeous in their own rich colors and hues! I think this card can be ANYTHING you want. A "just because", "hello", "getting married", "engagement"..or "getting a grant approval" type of card :)?

  5. Power blackout, totally. A completely under-represented occasion :)
I love the 'new' colour combo - I think it pops so much more than red would have! Enjoy the time with your family, and I hope your good weather continues!

  6. Hey there, Jocelyn! I love your humor in your posts - they make me chuckle. I can totally relate to "ugly card syndrome" as I had a few unfortunate creations in my craft room this past weekend. Haha It happens. I also LOL-ed at your "black out" suggestion for your card. I think it's fine just the way it is. :)

  7. Glad to hear from you again! I kept checking for updates!! I love this card!! The colors make me very happy!! This is a good one to keep in your stash so if you need a card for something right away, you have one. You're right. It's very versatile. Have you ever tried submitting to the Lawnscaping Challenges? It's Lawn Fawn's challenge blog.

  8. Hope things slow down for you soon. I think this is a lovely card. So fun & great colors.

I agree with you on the creating under pressure part. You just end up frustrated! But I'm sure anything you made wasn't UGLY - hard to believe. Have a great day & relax yourself ;).

  11. Welcome back! Missed you but totally understand how life gets in the way of crafting sometimes! LOL! Love the card and the first thing I noticed was the fun colour scheme - glad you switched the base colours. :)

  12. Sooo glad you're back!! You were totally missed! Your card is fabulous, the lanterns look like they are swinging in the breeze. I would have accepted it for sure! Bizzare how the cards 'we' love are often the 'unwanted' ones... How could they resist *that* bow!! But you have made me want to see the ugly card now... I'm picturing really dreadful things, I have a great imagination!

  13. A happy, pretty card like this doesn't need an excuse! It would make any recipient smile. I like the long, narrow layout, too.
