Woo hoo! Please send me your address at my e-mail under the "Contact Me" tab, and I'll pass it along to Paper Crafts.

Thanks so much for everyone who came by and/or commented! If you would like to get a copy of the Card Design Handbook, you can order an online version or a paper version HERE.

My husband and I are going to Minneapolis for a couple of days. Other than a couple of solo work trips, the furthest we've been all summer is about 45 minutes away. LOL! It's been a busy summer.

Have a great afternoon!

Paper Crafts Card Design Blog Hop

Today I'm participating in the Paper Crafts Magazine's blog hop for the Card Design Handbook. You should be coming from the super-talented Julia Stainton's blog. To start from the beginning, or if you get lost along the way, here's the order:

Jocelyn Olson <--You're here

I am so incredibly excited and humbled to be among these talented ladies!

We're each covering a design principle from the new Card Design Handbook, and my principle is LINE. We're showing how using the principle enhances a card. So, here is my "good" card that doesn't incorporate line:

My Mom Says I'm Awesome

I picked the principle of line because it's probably the principle I violate the most (i.e., I often don't ground my people/objects when I make graphic cards). Yes, I'm a crafting rebel. It made such a difference to use a line to ground the guitar player:

My Mom Says I'm Awesome

For this hybrid card, I used some digital Cosmo Cricket for the guitar player and cassette tapes (a little altered). I made the sentiment in Photoshop, but I can't take credit for it--the phrase is on a border strip part of the same Cosmo Cricket set. It cracks me up.

If you don't have the Card Design Handbook yet, I can't say enough good things about it. The issue is packed with fab projects and great design tips...it's like the coolest textbook ever.

You can win a copy of the Card Design Handbook by commenting on each of the designers' blogs. To enter, please leave a comment on this post (through August 28th) for a chance to win.

Next on the hop is the incredible Angeline. Be sure to hop all the way to the Paper Crafts' blog--I hear there are some terrific prizes!

Thanks for looking!

Birthday Flower--PDCC #146

Hello! I have a card for the new Play Date Cafe Challenge. It's time for Color Splash! The color this week is lime green:

Fun, right? Each of us received some great stickers from SRM. Using the colors and the stickers, here's what I came up with:

I die cut some flower, spritzed them with some iridescent mist, curled the petals, and layered the flowers. I cut the "Happy Birthday" sticker in half and stacked the words. I finished it off with some bling--I almost never use ropes of bling, but I thought it worked. Here's a close-up:

The winner of this week's challenge will win a prize package from SRM:

On Saturday, I participated in a blog hop for Annette and did a giveaway. The winner of the $10 gift certificate is "Jordanbev5." Beverly, please send me an e-mail at the "contact me" link above. Congrats!

Have a great day!

A. Spoon Full of Sugar Blog Hop

Happy Saturday! Today, I'm joining in a blog hop for Annette Witherspoon's two year anniversary of blogging. You should be coming from Sarah Hamer's blog, and to start from the beginning, please see Annette's blog.

I don't even remember how I met Annette, but we've been blog friends for about a year and a half. I've always loved her cards (cheerful, colorful, often punny), and she is a total whiz with her die-cutting skills, as evidenced HERE or HERE. I never know what kind of card Annette is going to make, and I love that! I love that! Congrats, Annette for two years of blogging!

To wish her well, I made a little card using some of my Two Peas digi supplies:

I started off by stamping the Adrienne Looman Doilies in white and different sizes (there are three). Then, I a did a ton of misting with the Adrienne Looman Mists--I switched up the sizes, rotation, colors, and opacity to get the effect. Here's a close-up:

Lastly, I used a Kristina Werner digital brush for the sentiment. I picked this sentiment because I think Annette is pretty amazing. :)  I finished the card off with some May Arts ribbon.

Since I used all Two Peas supplies, I thought I would do a little giveaway. On Tuesday night, I'll draw a winner for a $10 gift certificate to Two Peas. To enter, just leave a comment. You don't have to become a follower (although it's appreciated!). If you visit Annette's blog and leave a comment, you'll get an extra entry.

Now, last on the blog hop is Annette, and I know she has some prizes she's giving away. You can see her blog HERE.

Thanks for looking!

Give Thanks--PDCC #145

Hi Everyone! I'm sharing a card for the new Play Date Cafe Challenge. The colors for this week are Burnt Sienna, Mustard, and Slate:

The other day I received my new Technique Tuesday stamps, and I was super excited to use them. The new Teri Anderson designs are THE BOMB! It was all I could do to not buy all of them. Ha! I thought the Think Beef Thanksgiving set worked well with the PDCC colors. Here's what I came up with:

Isn't that turkey stamp hilarious? I stamped, colored, and fussy cut one turkey and then decided to add a second one. I added googly eyes and adhered them. The one on the left is popped up a little. Here's a close-up:

So now's your chance to link up and enter to win a prize package from this week's sponsor, Momenta:

If you want to enter this week's PDCC, you can see the challenge HERE.

For any regular readers, I'm sorry I've been so scarce on the commenting. It is CRAZY busy with work (grant applications at the moment)...it's been a lot like writing back-to-back dissertations in a month. Talk about major burnout!  But, the end is in sight. I kind of feel like one of the turkeys right now. hee hee I promise I'll be visiting blogs in another week. :)

Have a great week!

Smile--PDCC #144

Hi Everyone! I have another card for the new Play Date Cafe Challenge. Woo hoo!

The colors for this week are Pink Carnation, Orange Sherbet, and Lemonade:

The colors are so cheerful and definitely "me" colors. I had a million ideas, but I knew I wanted to use Erica Hernandez's fab Confetti Sprinkles digital brushes to make this fun card:

It's another hybrid card. I started off with the digital confetti brushes and stamped them repeatedly in the PDCC colors. Then, I stamped a sentiment from Rhonna Farrer's InstaLove set, and, after printing, I fussy cut the sentiment. I added three different colors of Stickles on top of the confetti to give it a little zing. I finished the card up with some Twinery twine. Here's a close up of the zing:

I have to apologize for my photos. My daughter has taken over my regular photography spot with about 40 Littlest Pet Shop (she was writing out names for each one...I didn't have the heart to move them all).

So now it's your chance to link up and enter to win. The winner of The Cup of the Week will win a prize from Simon Says Stamps.

Growing in Unity Day 5

Hi everyone! It's my last day of my Growing in Unity week. It's the most I've ever blogged in a single week-ha ha. Thank you for all the sweet comments...I really appreciated reading them! If you want to see the other GIU posts, you can see them HERE, HERE, HERE, and HERE.

My daughter is going back to school in a couple of weeks and will start first grade. I pack her lunch, and she loves to get a note from me. Admittedly, I often end up writing them on her napkin, but it's still a note, right? I thought I would use some Unity stamps to make a few legitimate lunchbox notes for her. Here's what I came up with:

Every time I see that little pig, I squeal with delight (pun intended). It's the cutest stamp! All three images are from the Cosmo Cricket Garden Variety set. Here's a close-up of the pig:

I simply stamped and colored the images, added some American Crafts papers, and adhered them to die cut lunchbox notes. It was an easy enough project, you could mass produce these. The images are on the front, and once you open them, there's room to write a little note:

Now that I look at it, I should have stamped the inside. Oops! I love how this set has enough images, you could make a lot of different notes or tags with them.

As part of GIU, Unity sponsors a giveaway. One lucky person will win two Itty Bittys of his/her choice! To enter to win, leave a comment on this post and the prior GIU posts from this week. All comments must be received by 9:00 AM tomorrow, and I'll randomly drawing a name. I'll post the winner this weekend.

Thank you SO much for all the love this week. You all are the best! :)

PDCC #143-- My Whole Heart

Hi everyone! It's my first post as a Design Team member for The Play Date Cafe. I'm so excited to be joining the team!

The colors for this week are CHERRY, MINT JULEP, and JADE:

I have to admit, it took me three cards to come up with one I was happy with. You know it's a bad card when  your husband looks at it and his lip curls. ;) I switched to a different approach and came up with this card:

I started off with a stamp...yep, a digital stamp! I converted the stamp from Rhonna Designs into a cut file for my Cameo. Then, I cut a negative die-cut out of the white cardstock and layered jade-colored cardstock behind the die cut sentiment.

For the heart, I die cut just the heart with the embedded sentiment and then layered the mint julep cardstock. I popped up the heart. Here's an angled view to see the dimension on the heart:

I considered adding the centers of the letters back onto the card, but I kind of like the outlined letters. There was a period to the right of the heart, and I covered it with a little bling...there's nothing a little bling can't fix. :)

Like the colors? Want to play? The sponsor of the Cup of the Week Prize is Stop and Scrap.

Plus, they've generously offered a 10% discount code for participants and any of my blog readers. Just use PDCC10 when you check out, and you'll get the discount.

If you want to enter this week's PDCC, please submit your card HERE. I can't wait to see what you do with the colors. Have a great day!

Growing in Unity Day 4

Hello! It's my second post of the day. For my PDCC post, please click HERE.

I'm back with another Unity card as part of my Growing in Unity week. We're getting close to the end of the week, so be sure to leave a comment for a chance to win two Itty Bittys of your choice (well, comments are good no matter what). :)

For today's card, I made a little boy's birthday card. I have two young children, so having kids' cards on hand is helpful. Here's what I came up with:

I used the Bella Blvd. Dinomite stamp and a sentiment from It's Your Day, both from Unity. I love how they work together! I stamped the dinosaur onto some Fancy Pants Wave Searcher paper and fussy cut the image. Since there were long nails, I had to stamp the image onto the card base, too. I also stamped the eyes on white cardstock and fussy cut those, too. Another CAS card, but I love it for a little boy's birthday card.

Since I had my stamps and papers out, I decided to make a second card:

As part of GIU, Unity sponsors a giveaway. One lucky person will win two Itty Bitty's of his/her choice! To enter to win, leave a comment on this post. Each day, you can leave another comment on my GIU posts for additional chances to win. All comments must be received by 9:00 AM CST on Saturday, and I'll be randomly drawing a name later on Saturday.

Thanks for looking! My final GIU card of the week is tomorrow. :)

Growing in Unity Day 3

Hello! I hope you're having a great Wednesday. Today I'm back with another Unity card as part of my Growing in Unity week. I'm also on the Unity blog. If you want to see my earlier GIU posts from this week, you can see them HERE and HERE.

For today's card, I wanted to make a more masculine card using the October 2011 KOTM:

Imagine Dream Fly

I stamped the bird on white with a dark purple ink and fussy cut the image. Then, I stamped the sentiment out of the same kit, added some die-cut chevrons, and inked the edges of the card. Here's a close-up:

Imagine Dream Fly Close-Up

The bird is so cool--I love that stamp! The sentiment was intentionally slightly off-set to balance the tail of the bird. (The way I stamp, it very well could be an oops, but in this case, it was purposeful--ha ha)

As part of GIU, Unity sponsors a giveaway. One lucky person will win two Itty Bittys of his/her choice! To enter to win, leave a comment on this post. Each day, you can leave another comment on my GIU posts for additional chances to win. All comments must be received by 9:00 AM CST on Saturday, and I'll be randomly drawing a name later on Saturday.

Thanks for looking! I'll be back again tomorrow with another GIU (but a little later in the day). I'll also be sharing my first Play Date Cafe DT card. I'm excited to share it!
