Here's the first card, channeling Prince's song:
I started off by running the Cosmo Cricket digital image of the cassette tape through Photoshop (it was blue and cream) to make it black and add the wording (I used Two Peas' Island font). After I printed the tape, I heat embossed it with clear to make it look more real (and it does look remarkably real!). Then, I simply attached the Mandarin twine to the tape and the Basic Grey paper. I love how the tape looks like it's on jeans...I thought about trying to acid wash the paper but decided that wasn't such a hot idea with small children around.
When I was getting ready to print the cassette tape for the first card, I played around with the recoloring option in Word. I ended up with a cool retro 80s look. I printed the images, cut them out, and color blocked in the background. Super quick card!
So, here's my card channeling the Blondie song:
I've now been singing the "Call Me" song all afternoon...
Thanks for looking! Have a great day!
Oh these are just fabulous and fun! I remember the big fights that my sister and I had on who got to hear the Disney cassette tapes first! Good times. Good cards! Thanks for playing at CAS-ual Fridays!
ReplyDeleteLove them both! And I have a weird mix of both songs stuck in my head now, so thanks for that :) The twine and denim are perfect touches on the first, the color blocks are exactly the right 80s shades on the second. Awesome. I mean...Rad!
ReplyDeletelol... these are too cool!
ReplyDeleteThe twine is just so clever! I hated when it would get pulled out too, but I was so thankful when I was able to wind it back in with no problem. Phew!
ReplyDeleteAw yeah, it's back to the '80s week!! I really wish I hadn't liked one of your card so I could reference "gag me with a spoon," but, alas, both of them are just too rad! I'm like totally stealing your twine = tape ribbon idea AND your color blocking idea, so just deal.
ReplyDeleteLove this! So clever and fun! Love that song too :) Glad you came to play with us at CAS-ual Fridays!
ReplyDeleteOh these are fun! We are two gals hooked on bakers twine aren't we :)
ReplyDeleteThese are so great cards, Jocelyn, very cool and very 80s (but in a good way! LOL!). Love 'em both!
ReplyDelete(And thanks for letting me know about the Moxie Fab challenge, I didn't link my card though because I had made it already in June and thought it's not fair to link 'old' cards to the challenge.)
Both fab cards! I'm a bit partial to the denim version, definitely retro enough for me! The second card is almost Warhol... Love them!
ReplyDeletethese are both brilliant!!

Earworms...argh....I am so loving the visual. Pens & pencils were always handy for re-winding the pulled-out tape...and heaven forbid you TORE IT?! Agh!
ReplyDeleteI love the colour-blocking - you keep inspiring me...now if only I got to my desk and/or camera I'd be all set :)
my favorite post so far!
ReplyDeleteI loved our 8-track player (it still works...we use it in the barn!), but when cassettes came out I was delighted. Too bad they were always getting eaten. Your jean card rocks! And so does the blondie one! Thanks for joining us at CAS-ual Fridays this week.

Yep, I shared your excitement and we would walk around with our Boom Box! I mean what's not cool about the 80's! A little Cyndy Lauper "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun"...
ReplyDeleteI love them both....especially the first card!
ReplyDeleteThese are both totally adorable! I miss my mixed tapes from way back! Thanks for playing along at CAS-ual Fridays!
ReplyDeleteWow, wow, wow! And now I have a feeling you and I are of similar vintage. :P
ReplyDeleteHow CUTE!!! I love both of these cards, especially the first one with the twine. I was forever trying to wind back my tapes so that was a nice throwback. ;)
ReplyDeleteOh yea, I remember even trying to 'tape' the tape together...ha! Thanks for bringing back such great memories, and inspiring us with your awesome cards!
ReplyDeleteThese both rock! Love the twine as tape and it looks awesome against the denim paper. And I'm glad I'm not the only one that still has some mix-tapes kicking around! :)
ReplyDeleteI just saw these. How fun!! We must be close in age b/c I remember 8-tracks, too. I also remember getting excited when we got a cassette player. I used to listen to the radio and wait for my favorite songs to play so I could record then. Thanks for such fun cards and for the memories!! Love them!
